The CIVIL WILDERNESS rule „No Prohibitions!“ meets the „Stay unfinished“ concept of the STADTWERKSTATT Linz for 48 hours. The STADTWERKSADT’s premises at the Danube river bank – that are to be reached through the ARS ELECTRONICA center’s urban architecture – provide accesses to the river and places to stay that are protected from unwanted views by rank grows of willows, reeds and some gardening plants having escaped gardeners. The area chosen by CIVIL WILDERNESS is especially welcoming and naturally sheltered, used by STADTWERKSTATT and any passer-by for moments of privacy, meetings, partying. It makes a home for humans at times and a habitat for animals. A pair of mute swans tends to defend the small bay with relatively calm waters. What, if there were no prohibitions for 48 hours?

Note: After the closure of Civil Wilderness #21 in 2019, Individuals and family members of Austrian beavers (Castor fiber) have chosen to inhabit the area in 2023, an artist’s project ‘Beaver Lab’ alike. The project’s ‘Biberburg’, pop-up center of documented beaver research and site of beaver related program, during STWST48x9 COLD HEAVEN (09/0823-09/10/23) can be seen as being susceptible to the genius loci with its ‘No Prohibitions!’ policy.
